Coach Charter for a Group Night at Vivid Sydney
Vivid Sydney 2027 has 23 nights, opening on 28 May and closing on 19 June. The light walk itself is on foot around the harbour. The coach gets the group to the edge of it and home again afterwards.
How the closures ran in 2026
The 2026 festival shows what to expect. Harbourside roads shut between 3 pm and 1 am, and buses took other routes and stops. From 6 to 11 on Saturday evenings, Circular Quay station had no trains stopping, so passengers switched to Wynyard. Buses that would usually end at Circular Quay were sent to Martin Place, around 1.1 km off, after 6 pm on a Friday and after 5 pm on a Saturday or Sunday.
Plan on similar arrangements in 2027, but work from the 2027 notices when they appear. Set-down points inside a closed area will be out of reach, so the operator chooses one outside it and the group walks in.

Where the coach goes while you walk
Coaches cannot lay over on the street in central Sydney. The alternative is the state-run King Street Wharf facility, with entry from Lime Street. Its 55 bays are for coaches run by operators holding NSW long-distance, tourist and charter accreditation, and each plate must be registered beforehand. It is for parking only; passengers may not board or leave a coach inside. The coach leaves the group, parks, and returns to a pick-up point at an agreed time.
Dates and venue
- Friday 28 May - Saturday 19 June 2027 (23 nights)
- Circular Quay, The Rocks and the Sydney Opera House, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and other locations across Sydney
Groups coming in from outside Sydney
A school or seniors' group may come in from Wollongong, about 1.25 hours away, or Canberra, about three. An evening event turns that into a long day. Heavy Vehicle National Law standard hours limit a bus driver to 12 hours' work in 24, with at least 7 hours of continuous rest. A Canberra group leaving after lunch and heading home after the lights may need two drivers or a night in Sydney. Ask for that to be set out in the quote.
All Sydney toll roads are cashless, and a coach pays the heavy-vehicle rate.
Questions
Can the coach collect us outside the Opera House?
Not while the roads are closed. Agree a pick-up point outside the closure and walk to it. Share it with the whole group before the night starts.
Did public transport fares change during the festival?
No. In 2026 normal fares applied. A coach avoids the rerouted services and keeps the group together.
When should we book?
Early, for weekends. The organisers moved the 2027 dates a little later so the festival takes in the June public holiday, and that long weekend will be in demand.
