Coach Hire Across Australia

Canberra Airport coach transfers for school and study tours

Canberra Airport is often the first stop of a school civics tour. Neither a coach pick-up point nor a coach staging area is published, so the operator settles the loading arrangement for each booking.

No published coach point

What the airport does offer is a set of free pick-up bays, limited to 10 minutes, in its RED outdoor car park a short walk from Arrivals; public buses also stop at the kerb outside the Arrivals Hall. Neither is a coach bay. When you book, the partner operator confirms where the coach will load for your flight. Share that with every supervising adult before the day.

For departures, the drop-off is on the upper road, next to check-in. A large group should unload quickly and head inside.

Building a civics timetable

Civic is about 8.5 km away, 12 to 15 minutes. Parliament House and the War Memorial are both a short drive from the terminal, so a group on a morning flight can make a first booking the same day.

Schools claiming the PACER rebate must visit at least three of four set institutions: the War Memorial, Parliament House, the National Electoral Education Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy. Fix those bookings first and build the coach timetable around them.

Where the driver meets you

  • Canberra Airport does not publish a coach or charter pick-up point; the Arrivals Hall is on the ground floor, where public buses stop kerbside.

Where coaches wait

  • The airport does not publish a coach staging area; its free 10-minute pick-up bays are in the RED outdoor car park, about a two-minute walk from Arrivals.

Drive to the CBD

  • about 8.5 km by road to Civic (City Walk), about 12-15 min in light traffic; under 20 min on the Rapid 3 bus

Stopping at the institutions

At the National Library, school and group buses load right in front of the building. There is no bus parking in the street nearby; the bus parking zones are past Questacon. At the War Memorial, limited coach parking is on the eastern side of Treloar Crescent, and the Schools' entrance is for set-down and pick-up only. The Memorial's school bookings team sends a map and arrival instructions ahead of the visit; pass them on to the operator.

The ACT has no toll roads.

Questions

Could we fly into Sydney and coach down?

Yes. Sydney Kingsford Smith is about three hours by road. That adds a long coach leg, so weigh it against the flight options.

We are going on to the snow. How does that work?

Snowy Mountains shuttles appear on the airport's transport list, and a charter coach can do the same run. In Kosciuszko National Park, 2WD vehicles need snow chains on board on the main park roads, a rule that runs from the June to the October long weekend.

Is there a public bus for a latecomer?

Rapid 3 buses link the terminal with the City interchange: every quarter hour on weekdays, half-hourly at weekends.
