Adelaide Airport (ADL) group coach transfers

Adelaide Airport is close to the city and has one terminal for all flights. The detail to get right is vehicle size, because the airport sorts commercial pick-ups by height and length.

Vehicle size sets the pick-up point

Buses and coaches too big for the P1 Terminal Car Park (above 2.2 m in height or 5.4 m in length) use a dedicated bus and shuttle area, found where the public pick-up zone ends on its southern side; its conditions are posted at the entry, and charges apply. Smaller vans, below 2.4 m tall and 5.4 m long, may use it only with the airport's say-so in advance.

Chauffeured cars work differently: the driver meets passengers by the bottom of the main escalators, down in baggage reclaim, and loads from bays on Level 4 of the P1 car park. For a small executive party that is simpler.

No holding area

Adelaide publishes no coach holding area. Commercial drivers may work only in designated areas, never from the public pick-up lanes or the yellow line. The coach arrives close to when the group reaches the kerb, so send the flight number.

Where the driver meets you

  • Vehicles too large for the P1 Terminal Car Park (over 2.2 m high or 5.4 m long), such as buses and coaches, use the bus and shuttle area at the southern end of the public pick-up/drop-off area, under the conditions of use posted at its entry.

Where coaches wait

  • Adelaide Airport does not publish a coach holding area; its boom-gated Layoff Area near the western entrance is described for taxi, rideshare and chauffeur drivers.

Drive to the CBD

  • about 7 km by road to Victoria Square, about 10-15 min in light traffic

Ten minutes to town

Victoria Square is about 7 km, 10 to 15 minutes. South Australia has no toll roads. No council coach bays are published for the city, so the operator agrees a stopping point with each hotel.

Heading to the cricket or football? The Oval's own car parks take no buses at all, and on major event days drop-off happens on Pennington Terrace or King William Road.

Wine regions and the Hills

The Barossa is roughly an hour away and McLaren Vale about 45 minutes. On the way back down the South Eastern Freeway, buses drop into low gear at Crafers and hold it to the bottom, stay at or under 60 km/h and keep left, without overtaking, as far as the Measday Bridge. It is a slow descent; allow for it.

Questions

Can the coach take us from the airport to Kangaroo Island?

To the ferry at Cape Jervis, about two hours south. Each sailing takes only a handful of coaches, so reserve coach space on the ferry well ahead.

Is there a public bus for someone arriving later?

Two Adelaide Metro routes, J1 and J2, run straight to the city centre. They leave from Stop 10 on Sir Richard Williams Avenue, two to five minutes on foot.

We are 12 people. Does a coach make sense?

A minibus is usually enough. Tell us the size and the operator confirms whether it loads in the bus area or needs the airport's authorisation.
