Gold Coast Coach Charter for Groups and Teams

The Gold Coast stretches along the highway: theme parks at the northern end, the airport on the state border at the southern end, and the Surfers Paradise hotels in the middle. Most coach work here is moving groups up and down that strip.

Coolangatta arrivals

Cavill Mall is some 22 km up the highway from the terminal, about half an hour when the road is clear. Charter buses must be registered through the airport's Ground Transport Gateway and carry its RFID sticker, and they load in the GT Transit Area at the end of Terminal Drive. An operator without registration can apply for casual access, but the application needs approval and payment before the travel date, otherwise the coach cannot get in.

The airport sits on the Queensland-New South Wales line. In the 2026-27 daylight-saving season (4 October to 4 April), Tweed Heads and Byron Bay run an hour ahead of the Gold Coast, so write every pick-up time with the place it applies to.

Surfers Paradise during the works

The old Surfers Paradise Transit Centre has closed, and the council's new coach interchange is under construction on the Cypress Palms car park site. Until it opens, plan set-downs hotel by hotel across Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, and agree each one with the operator.

  • Gold Coast Airport (OOL, Coolangatta) is about 22 km by road to Cavill Mall, Surfers Paradise, about 30 min in light traffic; Brisbane Airport (BNE) is about 85 km north of Surfers Paradise, about 1 h or more.
  • All ground transport operators using Gold Coast Airport, including charter buses, must be registered and approved through the airport's Ground Transport Gateway and carry an RFID sticker; charter buses use the airport's GT Transit Area.
  • Gold Coast Airport sits on the Queensland-New South Wales border. Queensland does not use daylight saving; NSW does from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, so Tweed Heads and Byron Bay are one hour ahead of the Gold Coast in that period.
  • The City of Gold Coast is building the Surfers Paradise Coach Interchange at the Cypress Palms car park through 2026, with a 48 m shelter and three kerbside bus bays, to replace the Surfers Paradise Transit Centre, which closed in late 2025.
  • From Brisbane Airport, routes via the Gateway Motorway are tolled: the Murarrie toll point covers all vehicles crossing the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges. Queensland toll roads are cashless and accept any Australian toll tag.
  • Commercial tours in Queensland national parks such as Springbrook, Lamington and Burleigh Head need a Commercial Activity Permit from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

Parks, theme parks and the hinterland

Movie World, Wet'n'Wild and Dreamworld are at Oxenford and Coomera in the north; Sea World is at Main Beach. A group staying in Broadbeach can reach all of them without a long drive, so a coach on standby for several park days often works better than separate transfers.

Springbrook, Lamington and Burleigh Head are national parks, and a commercial tour there needs a Commercial Activity Permit from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. O'Reilly's is about 1.75 hours inland. For narrow hinterland roads, ask the operator whether a midi coach suits the route better than a full-size one.

Flying into Brisbane instead

Many international groups land at Brisbane Airport, about 85 km north of Surfers Paradise and an hour or more by road. The Gateway Motorway crossing at Murarrie is tolled for every vehicle and takes no cash; the operator's tag covers it and the toll is shown in the quote.

Questions

Can a coach take a conference group to the convention centre?

Yes. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is at Broadbeach, a short run from most hotel zones. Send session times and the number of loops you need.

How far is Byron Bay?

About 95 km, roughly an hour and a quarter. Remember the time difference in summer.

Can the coach wait at the airport for a delayed flight?

Yes. Registered coaches wait in the airport's holding area for ground transport, reached by turning left into May Bradford Drive, and come round to the transit bays once the group has its bags.
