Coach and Bus Charter in Ballarat
Most Ballarat coach bookings are school and heritage groups heading for Sovereign Hill, with sport now that Mars Stadium has reopened. The drive from Melbourne is simple. The detail is in where the coach stops once it gets there.
Sovereign Hill: two different drop-off points
Day visitors use the main entrance on Bradshaw Street, and coaches park in the car park on the opposite side of the road. Overnight guests at the Sovereign Hill Hotel are handled separately: the hotel's coach set-down and collection zones are at 39 Magpie Street in Golden Point.
If your group does both, a day on site and a night at the hotel, give the driver both addresses in writing. It saves a lap of the block with a full coach and tired students.

No coach bays in the city centre
The City of Ballarat parking pages list no dedicated tourist-coach parking in the centre. For the Art Gallery of Ballarat on Lydiard Street North, a walk past the gold-boom buildings, or lunch on Sturt Street, agree the set-down with each venue in advance. Lake Wendouree and the Botanical Gardens are on the western side of the city and make an easy stop between sessions.

A route through inner Melbourne may use cashless toll roads, which charge buses with 13 or more seats at the heavy-vehicle rate.

Questions
Is Ballarat a day trip from Melbourne for a school?
Yes. Allow up to an hour and a half each way from the city centre, which still leaves a full program at Sovereign Hill. Build the return around the end of the school day.
What should the group pack?
Warm layers. Ballarat sits well above Melbourne and is often colder, even in spring, and most of Sovereign Hill is outdoors.
Do we need a full-size coach for a small club?
No. For 20 or so people a minibus or midi coach is simpler to set down in town. For a full year level, one coach keeps everyone together.
