Guest Coaches for Weddings
Wedding transport is mostly about the guests: hotels to the ceremony, then the reception, and home at the end of the night. A coach does that in fewer trips than a line of cars.
Break the day into legs
Write each leg down with a time and an address: hotel to ceremony, ceremony to reception, reception back to the hotels. Most weddings need the coach at the start and the end, with a gap in the middle while guests are at dinner.
The late run is the one that goes wrong. Fix the last departure before the day and put it on the table cards. A driver who worked the early ceremony run may not be able to do a 1 am return inside the heavy-vehicle hours, so the quote may show a split booking or a second driver.

Country and mountain venues
Plenty of weddings are in wine country or the mountains. From Sydney, a coach to the Hunter Valley takes about 2 hours via the M1 and the Hunter Expressway, and a coach that is over 2.8 m tall or 12.5 m long must take NorthConnex rather than Pennant Hills Road. Concert days at the big Pokolbin venues bring heavy traffic, so check their calendars before you set times.
In the Blue Mountains, cameras catch buses stopping to drop guests in the Echo Point roundabout, and Scenic World's car park has a 2 m height limit. Resort and hotel venues around Leura and Medlow Bath know their own driveways; ask them where a coach can stop.
Rules that apply
- In NSW, limousines and hire cars with 12 seats or fewer, including the driver, are point to point transport
- In Victoria, operators of buses with seating for 10 or more adults, including the driver, must be accredited
The couple's car
Couples often book an executive car or limousine on its own. In NSW, hire cars and limousines with 12 or fewer seats counting the driver are point to point transport, and any vehicle doing booked work needs a yearly safety check, however new it is. In Victoria, a car stretched to more than 9 seats is still not a bus.
Questions
Do guests have to wear seat belts on the coach?
Where belts are fitted, yes. NSW can fine passengers older than 16 who leave them undone. Ask the operator to confirm belts on the coach it sends.
Can the driver wait during the reception?
The coach usually leaves after the set-down and returns for the late run. Tell the venue when it will come back so the driveway is clear.
Is a midi coach better than a full-size one for a winery venue?
Often. Midi coaches typically seat 25 to 35 and suit narrower driveways and small car parks. A full coach, usually 45 to 57 seats, makes sense when most guests travel together from one hotel.
